About Weihai
Weihai, located at the eastern tip of the Shandong Peninsula on the coast of the Yellow Sea, is a renowned coastal city in Shandong Province, eastern China. Facing the Korean Peninsula across the sea, Weihai is celebrated for its clean coastline, mild maritime climate and exceptional environment, and has been recognized as one of China's most livable cities. It is also an active center for education and research in materials, marine engineering and advanced manufacturing, hosting the Weihai campuses of Harbin Institute of Technology and Shandong University, together with a growing cluster of high-end equipment and new-material enterprises.
Visitors to Weihai can explore Liugong Island, the historic birthplace of China's Beiyang Fleet and an important memorial site of the First Sino-Japanese War; the Weihai International Bathing Beach and the scenic coastal park along Huancui District; Chengshantou, where the sun rises earliest over the Chinese mainland coast; and the Huancui Tower overlooking the city and the sea. Seafood is a highlight of the local cuisine, along with Shandong-style dishes, and the city's seaside promenades are ideal for an evening stroll.
Weihai is conveniently connected to the rest of China. Weihai Dashuipo International Airport (WEH) operates flights to major domestic hubs as well as international routes, while the Qingdao-Rongcheng intercity high-speed railway connects the city with Qingdao, Yantai and Jinan. Well-developed expressways, bus and taxi services make travel within the city easy.
